The full programme for Science Night 2026 at FIT BUT
From the dance of bees to signals from deep space. From the language of neurons in our brains to the fibre-optic cables connecting the world. Science is the language through which the universe speaks to us – and this year we’ll learn to listen to it. Come and discover how people and technology communicate with one another.
We invite you to join us for Science Night, with this year’s theme being COMMUNICATION. On Friday 25 September 2026 from 5.00 pm (until 10.00 pm), you’ll have the chance to get a glimpse into the world of modern information technology at FIT VUT.
What can you look forward to?
Can you communicate with a virtual drone? (O104)
- Come along to our faculty and learn how to fly a virtual drone.
When cities speak through data (C236)
- Try out interactive tools (dashboards, etc.) that work with open data from the world of smart cities.
How traffic planning helps save battery power and protect the environment (L211)
- We’ll introduce you to the energy-efficient operation of IoT devices.
Your identity, your data (S214)
- Are you curious about how systems that can recognise you actually work? Visit the biometric laboratory.
How do modern technologies communicate? (NXP, A112)
- We’ll show you how the individual components of a modern car ‘communicate’ with one another.
A tour of the faculty’s unique campus with an architect (meeting point in the courtyard of the monastery, 17:00 and 18:30)
- Our faculty campus is rated as one of the most beautiful in the world. Experience its architectural and historical beauty for yourself.
3D printing workshop (Open Space / R109; two sessions at 20:30 and 21:45)
- You’ll have the chance to design your own 3D model, which you’ll then print straight away on a 3D printer.
What can encrypted communication reveal? (C304)
- Even encryption isn’t a panacea. Connect with your mobile phone and we’ll show you which apps you’re currently using.
How to deal with fear in virtual reality (S206)
- Try out virtual reality in the roles of therapist and patient, working together to navigate a traumatic virtual experience.
Night at FIT with a fire show (ongoing, show between Buildings A and C, 21:00)
- Alongside Researchers’ Night, our faculty is hosting a companion event organised by the Students’ Union: Night at FIT. Among other things, you can look forward to a fire show by the group Magnis. Advance registration is required for some of the Night at FIT activities. Register HERE.
What do historical sources reveal about us? (Q201)
- Today’s modern technology is capable of bringing the past to life and allowing historical sources to speak to us. See for yourself.
The Secret of the Vault: Communicating with AI (Oracle/NetSuite, A113, 18:00–22:00)
- Can you communicate with artificial intelligence from the future? Solve a series of codes, ask the AI for a hint, and together uncover the code to the safe containing a prize.
- Ubiquitous AI brings with it security risks. We’ll show you developments in the field of deepfakes and also look at large language models (LLMs).
PicoMobil: A LEGO vehicle model with a Raspberry Pi Pico controlled by a wireless steering wheel (in front of L306)
- Would you like to control a LEGO model wirelessly? And do you know what’s needed to do so?
Treasures of IT History: The Museum of Computing (A118)
- What did IT technologies look like in the past, and how have their design and functions changed over time? Visit our museum
Visual Geolocation: Where was the photographer standing and what did they see? (L210)
- We’ll show you all the information that outdoor photography reveals about us today.
Games and puzzles for sharp minds (A218)
