EUropean REsilient Chiplet Architecture

The goal of the EURECA project is to create a common hardware library of chiplets and raise awareness of military systems that can derive most benefit from it. EURECA is truly pan-European, comprising 18 partners from 9 different European nations. EURECA aims to assess the global state-of-the-art of the chiplet market in different technical domains and to understand how to utilise these components for the creation of advanced Systems-in-Package for European defence applications. This will involve an analysis of the SiP requirements of key European defence system vendors and will define a European Chiplet Library (ECL) which is suitable for their needs. This library will focus on digital systems for defence, whilst also considering RF and optical communications as appropriate. To facilitate this, selected elements of the ECL will be designed, manufactured and utilised to create an ecosystem for building a range of complex SiPs for different defence applications. It is the stated intention, to establish a European supply chain, for the provision of chiplets and SiPs for defence applications, with an ultimate view to expanding its capacity and market outreach over time. The technologies and manufacturing capabilities necessary for building these chiplets and the ability to design competitive European products based on them, using valuable intellectual property, are all available in Europe. It is therefore the intention to create and demonstrate the viability of a European supply chain which will provide access to advanced chiplets and integration technologies for the use of European defence OEMs, without reference to, or influence from, third parties. EURECA is focused on delivery, with an optimum number of partners who add value across the full range from materials to defence systems. This facilitates exchange of information, enhances cost efficiency, develops a value chain for Europe and reduces cost.
