Classification of measurement instruments for electrical quantities. Principles of correct measurement. Analog measurement mechanism. Voltage, current, frequency, phasis, power, modulation, resistance, capacitance, Q, resonance frequency measurement. Testers. Generators. Magnetic and non-electric measurement.

Get experience and knowledge of working with electronic measurement instruments for electric and non-electric measurement.

Learning objectives

Obtain knowledge about principles, use, and application of electronic measurement instruments.

Prerequisites

Prerequisite kwnowledge and skills

Basic knowledge from analog and digital electrical engineering. Basic knowledge about elements inside electrical and electronic equipments and units.

Syllabus of lectures

  1. Introduction. Principles of good measurement. Errors and uncertainty.
  2. Analog measurement mechanism.
  3. Active electrical quantities, analog voltmeters.
  4. Digital measurement. A/D converters for measurement.
  5. Recorders and analog scopes.
  6. Structure of analog scopes and its application.
  7. Digital scopes and its features.
  8. Measurement in logical systems, spectral analyzers.
  9. Time, frequency and phase measurement.
  10. Current and power measurement.
  11. Passive electrical quantities, resistance, capacitance, inductance.
  12. Characteristic measurement. Generators for measurement.
  13. Magnetic and other non-electric measurement.

Progress assessment

Checking of student's notes about measurements, reports from measurements.

Controlled instruction

2 tests and active attendance on all laboratory practice.

Exam prerequisites

Qualification for class credit is to measure all excercises and submit the reports.
