Special measures for the examination period and state final examinations

Dear students,

as you may have noticed, the BUT published an update regarding the current extraordinary measures in the study agenda
https://www.vutbr.cz/en/but/news-f19528/important-information-on-the-study-agenda-d197470

BUT contact teaching will remain cancelled until at least April 17, 2020. Further information will be published on the BUT website not later than on April 18, 2020.

As we do not assume that it is possible to take exams at BUT in a distance form, BUT will allow each student, including foreign students, in relation to external conditions (which we are not currently able to predict in terms of time or scope) to be able to complete all exam dates when it is possible to come to the exam without any problems. Therefore, we also expect the whole exam period to be shifted by a few weeks, or to the period of summer holidays, or at worst until the beginning of the fall semester - the specific implementation at BUT depends on the date when the restriction of free movement of persons will end.

At FIT, we have prepared 5 options of schedule depending on when these measures end. Some of the options below do not specify fixed dates, as it is not certain by how many weeks the examination period will really be shifted, but overall they should give you an idea of how the current semester will be completed and when you can schedule your holidays without risking collisions with exams. We expect fixed dates to be specified with sufficient time before the beginning of the examination period.

Option 1 - the measures will end before the beginning of the examination period

  • If it is certain no later than 5 weeks prior to the beginning of the examination period, that there will be no changes to the schedule, we will reserve rooms according to https://www.fit.vut.cz/study/advisor/20192020/zkouskyLS/ in the information system and the examination period will begin in accordance with the schedule.
  • We will allow students to postpone the submission deadline of bachelor\'s and master\'s theses by up to 10 days on individual basis according to the applications submitted in FIT IS.
  • State final examinations will take place in accordance with the original academic year schedule with the possibility of a make-up examination in August.
  • All applications for postponement of bachelor\'s thesis/master\'s thesis submission deadline to the end of July and state final examinations to August will be approved.

Option 2 - the measures will end in May

  • The examination period will be shifted by 1-3 weeks and will potentially overlap with the state final examinations.
  • Students, who fail the first or second attempt of course final examinations will take the state final examinations in August (which is a make-up examination date for others).
  • Postponement of bachelor\'s and master\'s theses submission deadline by up to 10 days + 1-2 weeks which the state final examinations will be shifted by, will be allowed on individual basis according to the applications in FIT IS.
  • The state final examinations will be shifted by 1-2 weeks (they will take place before July 3rd with a possibility of a make-up examination date in August).
  • All applications for postponement of bachelor\'s thesis/master\'s thesis submission deadline to the end of July and state final examinations to August will be approved.

Option 3 - the measures will end at the beginning of June

  • The examination period will be shifted by 6 weeks (to June 15th - July 17th) and will fully overlap with the state final examinations. Students, who fail the first or second attempt of course final examinations will take the state final examinations in August (which is a make-up examination date for others).
  • Postponement of bachelor\'s and master\'s theses submission deadline by up to 36 days (in accordance with the shift of state final examinations) will be allowed on individual basis according to the applications submitted in FIT IS.
  • All applications for postponement of bachelor\'s thesis/master\'s thesis submission deadline to the end of July and state final examinations to August will be approved.
  • State final examinations will take place from August 19th to August 28th (approximately 3 days for MSZ and 4 days for ISZ).
  • The make-up state final examinations will take place from September 21st to September 25th (only for those who failed the state final examinations in August).

Option 4 - the measures will end at the end of June

  • The examination period will be split to 2 + 3 weeks.
  • The first two weeks of the examination period will take place in July (July 6th - July 17th).
  • The last 3 weeks of the examination period will take place in August and September (August 17th - September 4th).
  • New submission deadlines for bachelor\'s and master\'s theses will be announced (approximately 3 weeks before the state final examinations).
  • The first state final examinations attempts will take place in August and September (August 31st - September 7th).
  • The make-up state final examinations will take place from September 21st to September 25th (only for those who failed the state final examinations in August). BIT graduates, who use this attempt will be able to enroll in MIT before the end of course re-registration.

Option 5 - the measures will end at the end of June or the beginning of July

  • The examination period will take place from August 17th to September 18th, before the beginning of the fall semester in September.
  • New submission deadlines for bachelor\'s and master\'s theses will be announced (approximately 3 weeks before the state final examinations).
  • The state final examinations will take place from September 14th to September 25th.
  • BIT students, who failed the state final examinations, but want to study in the follow-up master\'s degree programme will be allowed to enroll in all courses of the master\'s degree programme, that they could regularly enroll in, if they passed the state final examinations within the current bachelor\'s degree programme. If this extension of bachelor\'s study would lead to study fees, the study fees will be waived. Once the student has passed the state final examinations make-up examination, which in this case will take place in June 2021, they can then have the completed courses recognised as a part of the follow-up master\'s degree programme (including courses completed with grade E) and can complete the study in 1 year. For those who do not wish to enroll in the master\'s degree programme, we will negotiate a make-up state final examinations in January 2021, which we have promised.

Common dates for all options

  • The winter semester 2020/2021 begins on September 21, 2020.
  • Holidays can be scheduled from July 20th to August 14th (no examinations will take place within this time frame).

In the event that the measures end in September or later, which none of us think will happen, the examination period and the state final examinations would be scheduled to the first convenient date and students, who wish to continue their studies will be allowed to enroll in master\'s degree programme courses, as specified in option 5.

We will discuss the entire process with the BUT student affairs office to ensure that later course examination and SZZ results  cannot be challenged and if any other changes need to be implemented, you will be informed.

We thank you for your understanding and wish you a successful completion of the semester
