Subject specific learning outcomes and competences

An overview of wide spectrum of various information systems. Detailed knowledge of modern method for design and implementation of information systems oriented to economic and government applications. Methodology of design and implementation of information system.

Learning objectives

Based on the knowledge of information system on the bachelor level to expand this knowledge of information systems and technology of their development.

Syllabus of lectures:
  1. Data definition, basic principles of modelling, structures and collections.
  2. Advanced transaction models towards workflow.
  3. OLAP - multidimensional data view, representation, data mining I.
  4. OLAP - multidimensional data view, representation, data mining II.
  5. Data and information, semantics, ontological and semantic web - RDF I.
  6. Data and information, semantics, ontological and semantic web - RDF II. 
  7. Economic information systems - human resources, salary.
  8. Economic information systems - book-keeping.
  9. Economic information systems - orders, invoicing.
  10. Economic information systems - banks, payment, store.
  11. Example of OLPT information system design and implementation - university information system.
  12. Internet shop as the portal type of information system I.

Syllabus - others, projects and individual work of students:
  1. To choose some problem from the information systems branch. Possible problems are actualized every year, but the student can solve his own problem.
  2. To specify the problem using non-formal specification.
  3. To define formally the solution using UML diagrams.
  4. To define an interface with the connected system using a set of XML input and output documents.
  5. To implement the solution in such way to be able to communicate with the database through internet interface.
  6. Examples: Purchase and selling of shares. University courses organisation. Fly tickets booking. Diary. Railway tickets booking. Travel agency. Bank account and credit cards. Store of production company. Ambulance dispatching. Supermarket.

Progress assessment

At least half of points obtainable during the semester (tests a project), i.e. 25 points.

Controlled instruction

Mid-term test. Continuous checking of the project solution by the supervisor.
