3D Optical digitalization - winter

Students will be introduced to the 3D ATOS I scanner and its possibilites. They will be intructed in the preparation of the scanner, basic servis and callibration, preparation of the object for scanning, basic scanning of a simple object, polygonization, exporting the files for 3D printers and their optimalization. Students will learn how to adjust the 3D model.
We will look at solving specific problems during the digitalization of complex objects.

Subject specific learning outcomes and competences

Students will be able to work with the ATOS I system, they will manage the basics of working on simple projects using optical digitalization and will be able to set up STL models for 3D printers.

Learning objectives

The course will introduce students to 3D optical digitalization technologies within the ATOS1 system. They will learn how to use this technology for the scanning spatial objects and adjust them digitally for further use. Students should acquire practical skills essential for independent work in the discipline of spatial digitalization, for the archivation of objects, and for sculptural work.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

The basic knowledge of IT, the ability of orientation in virtual space, patience, interest in 3D technologies. The knowledge of 3D programs (Blender, maya, Rhino) is welcome, but is not conditional. Basics of English.

Syllabus of seminars

1. Introduction to the hardware, basic service and checking the status, manipulation with the machines
2. Scanner callibration, mounting the appropriate lens, setting up the model for scanning
3. Scanning a simple spatial model and its polygonization
4. Adjustment of the scanned object and its export to STL
5. Scanning a selected object and learning about the problem-solving methodology

Progress assessment

2 credits for attendance, unclassified.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations..

Controlled instruction

Attendance in lectures - 70% min., workshops are mandatory. Students will be divided into groups and lead to cooperation on the assigned tasks.
