Properties and distribution of sensors according to physical principles. Technical parameters of sensors. Sensor signal gathering and processing. Classification of sensor signals. Semiconductor and microelectronic sensors. SMART sensors. Sensor system distribution. Centralized and decentralized system of the measuring strings. Laboratory measuring systems. Measuring systems for industrial purposes. Distributed industrial sensor systems. Measuring system programming. Virtual measuring systems. Distributed industrial I/O systems. Introduction to technical diagnostics. Fuzzy logic and neural networks and their utilization in technical diagnostics.

Subject specific learning outcomes and competences

The PhD students will obtain an overview on the elements and communication systems used in the laboratory and industrial measuring practice. They will become acquainted with industrial distributed I/O systems and the respective technology. They will learn to use virtual instrumentation, inclusive of the development of their own proposals of virtual measuring systems. The study is completed by an introduction to technical diagnostics.

Learning objectives

The main aim of this subject is to make PhD students familiar with modern measuring and control technologies inclusive of the methods of transmission, processing and exploitation of the data obtained.
