Abstract

Permanent magnet synchronous machines become more and more popular due to their reliable construction and very good performance in mechatronics systems. The drives based on PMSM provide better mechanical reliability than DC drives and better torque to volume ratio than AC induction machines. PMSM drives are usually required to operate in a wide speed range when the operation with the constant magnetic flux is not possible because of maximal stator voltage limitation. That is why all high performance PMSM drives control systems have to incorporate some strategies for operation under field weakening conditions. Unfortunately PMSM field weakening control is much more complicated than this in the case of a DC or AC induction machine.
