Evaluating Performance of Message-Passing Programs on SMP Clusters
In the last few years, SMP clusters have gained significant popularityin the field of parallel computing due to their excellentprice/performance ratio and possible universal use. This paper showssome aspects of SMP clusters with regard to implementation of variousparallel algorithms. Three types are presented, which demonstratedifferent computation/communication patterns: process farm, pipelineand data parallel computing on a linear processor chain. All theseprogramming paradigms are modeled and simulated on various SMP clusterconfigurations and the obtained results are discussed.
