Abstract

The contribution deals with a statistical analysis of digitized chart records from six ombrographic stations of
the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute. The statistical techniques for analyzing the measured time series are
consistently based on the theory of extreme value distributions. Two methods of statistical inference (annual
maximum series and partial duration series), and two approaches to parameter estimation (maximum likelihood method
and probability-weighted moment method), are compared in the contribution.
