AUP-L FaVU AUP-L Acad. year 2022/2023 Summer semester 1 credits

Current academic year

The course prepares for practical situations that artistic/design practice necessarily brings. It is often necessary to make decisions quickly - at such a moment it is good to be able to orient yourself quickly.

Sometimes you will have a license or work contract on the table with a client, manufacturer, gallery or employer. Or you will want to treat the conditions of cooperation in advance. How do you deal with these situations, how do you understand the contracts for how to negotiate them?

You may want to start your own brand. What does it involve?

You may find that your work is arbitrarily borrowed by someone else. Or you may want to use another author's work for your work. When do you need his consent? How can you defend yourself when someone uses your work without your consent?

Together we will address specifically the following topics, for example:

- How can I treat the terms of cooperation in advance?
- How to write and negotiate a license?
- What license fee can I want? One-time or a percentage of the profit?
- Do I have any rights if I haven't signed a contract?
- What can I do if I need to protect my work?
- When can I legally use another author's work? (And what is the difference between inspiration and plagiarism?)
- How do I protect my design or brand?
- How to start your own brand?
- Etc.

We will also discuss specific experiences of students and learn from cases of copyright disputes that have occurred in our country or abroad.
