We bring you information about the actions and measures taken by Brno University of Technology after yesterday's tragic events at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University.
Let's help people affected by the tragedy at Charles University
The Charles University Foundation announces a fundraiser to support the families of the victims, teachers and students affected by the shooting at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University.
All funds raised will be used to provide targeted assistance to those affected by this tragedy.
BUT also participates in sharing and supporting the collection.
Psychological and crisis assistance
Police psychologists organise help for people affected by the attack and their families. Crisis intervention is also offered by Charles University itself by phone or online chat - complete information is available on the university's website.
We recommend downloading Don't panic!!! app (Nepanikař in Czech), developed by BUT students, which provides first aid in case of psychological problems. Their online counselling service is also available. App is available on Google Play and Apple Store.
BUT analyses security measures
On Thursday afternoon, immediately after being informed about the situation at the Faculty of Arts, the management of BUT ordered an immediate analysis of security control at the university. "Although the predictability of similar acts is very limited in real terms, we must deal with security measures that will at least adequately prevent similar situations and enable us to manage crisis situations in terms of increased attention to signals and reports of possible non-standard events, alertness, the ability to secure the area and evacuation," said Ladislav Janicek, rector of BUT.
Expression of support for Charles University
The Rector of BUT Ladislav Janíček is in personal contact with the Rector of the Charles University Milena Králíčková and expressed his deepest condolences on behalf of the University and offered full support and assistance from BUT. Representatives of the university's management and students are communicating and coordinating all assistance through the Czech Rectors' Conference and the Student Chamber of the University Council.
The Rector of the University, together with other Rectors of Czech universities and representatives of university students, attended the commemoration ceremony in Prague on 22 December at Karolinum. Representatives of the Student Chamber of the Academic Senate of Brno University of Technology attended the commemoration in Brno at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University together with other student representatives of Brno universities.
We will keep you informed about further progress and steps that await Czech universities in connection with this tragic situation.
