Abstract

The EU is beginning to put more pressure on the adoption of a regulatory approach to equal representation of women on the boards of Europe’s major companies. The present paper analyse the current approach by statistically comparing the women’s representations in several EU countries including Czech Republic. It also evaluates the benefits and limitations of such regulatory approach by analysing the situations in several European countries. Based on this method, authors conclude that, while being a very simple and handy tool, the quotas on the numbers of female directors at major companies are the least efficient way of having women in creative and leading positions. They propose an emancipation of women’s life strategies and adoption of measures promoting women’s talent in both the professional and private lives.
