In the paper, a concept of a wireless sensor network for the exploitation on a board of a small airplane is discussed. Both the transmit side (an array of pressure sensors in a seat) and the receive side (an antenna connected to a central unit) are integrated into three-dimensional knitted fabrics optimized for vehicular applications. The textile substrate supports electronic functions and provides required mechanical properties (thermal insulation, attenuation of vibrations, utility properties) at the same time. A complete on-board wireless sensor network fully integrated into knitted substrates has not been described in the open literature yet.
