Abstract
This paper compares the different approaches to the definition of the term "security" according to the current economic and legal theories. The first part is devoted to the definition of financial instruments of investment and noninvestment character. In the first part financial instruments of investment and noninvestment character are defined. The second part covers the basic aspects of legal definiton of securities and compares them with securities of financial character.
