Abstract
The paper compares the properties of planar and volumetric EBG structures. A dual-band patch antenna placed on a dielectric substrate with the uniplanar compact EBG (UC-EBG) and the conventional volumetric EBG (air holes drilled in substrate) was designed and simulated in CST Microwave Studio.
