Abstract

The paper deals with the automated design and optimization of periodic structures with surface-wave band gap. The design of such structures without a proper approach is rather difficult due to the large factor of uncertainty how the electromagnetic band gap (EBG) properties change on the dependence of the unit cell geometry. In the work, a genetic algorithm (GA) is implemented in Matlab in connection with CST Microwave Studio (CST MWS) for the dispersion characterization. Using the proposed approach, design examples of single-band and dual-band planar EBGs are presented.
