Abstract

In the paper, the fully automated design and optimization of electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structures using global evolutionary algorithms is presented. The computational process is controlled from Matlab in connection with CST Microwave Studio (CST MWS) for dispersion analysis. In our design, parameters of a planar square EBG unit cell are optimized for given band gap position and maximum bandwidth, using binary-coded genetic algorithm (GA) with single-point and multi-point crossover and differential evolution (DE) in the basic variant. Results obtained by the different algorithms are verified in Ansoft HFSS. The particular methods are compared with the main emphasis on the convergence velocity.
