Abstract

This paper deals with a subjective evaluation of an audio signal latency caused by principle of real-time digital audio signal processing. Design of an experiment is described in the paper that uses psychoacoustic method of constant stimuli with anchor to evaluate sensation of the latency in live music performance on an electronic musical instrument. Results of the experiment are presented in the paper for several types of electronic music instruments. The recommended buffer size for real-time digital audio signal processing systems is discussed in conclusion, based on the experiment results and efficiency of parallel audio processing algorithms implemented in modern multiple-core desktop processors.
