Abstrakt

This papers deals with so called Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which I just started to
teach at FIT BUT. I would like to bring some information about their history, theory, software
tools and possible research in future.
The paper also brings a very brief demonstration of one possible extension of GIS products
which is a WEB interface. WEB interfaces are currently very popular ways of information
presentation and share.
