MIT-EN Master of Information Technology in English

Tuition, fees, living expenses and financial aid

Tuition and fees are EUR 1,500 per semester, i.e. EUR 3,000 per year.

The BUT residential system can accommodate all its foreign graduate students (about EUR 120/month); housing in the Brno area is also possible (about EUR 200/month). Graduate students' expenses for housing, food, books, medical insurance, and incidentals vary widely, depending on their marital status, quality-of-life expectations and housing arrangements. For example, the price of lunch is EUR 5-10, so the monthly costs of living may vary between EUR 300-600.

The FIT financial aid program ensures that education at BUT is accessible to all qualified candidates regardless of their financial circumstances. BUT provides financial aid to students in whose case the tuition and fees would exceed the available financial means of their families. Financial need is the difference between the price of attending FIT and a family's ability to pay that price, which is determined using the parents' tax returns for the previous 2 years, provided with the application as part of the application process. The remaining needs, if any are addressed using a FIT scholarship, research assistance, benefit scholarship, etc.

Refund of the paid tuition fee if the student passes all the courses in which he/she has enrolled in one semester (for at least 18 credits per semester) with a semester grade average (SGA):

25% refund if SGA up to 3.0
50% refund if SGA up to 2.5
75% refund if SGA up to 2.0
100% refund if SGA up to 1.5

Applicants for degree programmes given in the English language are required to:
- contact us and submit their CV, including the list of relevant IT courses they have passed (including their final marks), a motivation letter and their best copyright project in IT (technical report + source codes^*) - all in one archive file).

The deadline for application is March 31, 2026. The fee must be paid no later than April 15, 2026.

The copyright project in IT will be used only for the purposes of evaluating the quality of the candidate for study and will not be published anywhere.

The FIT Study department will contact the applicants within two weeks after the application deadline and provide them with detailed information on further steps to be taken. The applicants might be asked to have up to 2 hours of Skype interviews as a part of the quality assessment procedure. The interview may include questions about prerequisites or programming skills (see Admission procedure rules, Annex 1).

The on-line Request for Accommodation for the academic year 2026/2027 will be open starting from April 2026. Students who have to apply for a visa are strongly encouraged to arrange for their accommodation well in advance.

by 10 September 2026 Submit a request for recognition of foreign education

Graduates of a bachelor's degree programme at a foreign university submit an application for recognition of foreign education.
The legalized original of your bachelor's diploma is to be delivered to the FIT Study department as soon as possible, upon the enrolment, by 10 September 2026, at the latest.
10 September 2026 Enroll for study

It is only through enrolment that you become a regular student of the FIT. The date of enrolment is indicated in the electronic application or in the news on the faculty's homepage. The date of enrolment in the master's degree programme given in English is 10 September 2026. If you cannot attend the enrolment in person, you can enroll by proxy on the basis of a power of attorney.

Pay the tuition fee
Students in the master's degree study programme given in English have to pay one year's tuition and fees in the amount of EUR 3000. The tuition fee is to be sent to the FIT bank account:

Combined study What is it?

The doctoral degree programme in Information Technology is intended for outstanding graduates from a master's degree completed at any university. The education acquired in this degree programme also includes preparation and certification for scientific work. Graduates of the doctoral degree programme are ready to start their own scientific, research and managerial work. The graduates can utilize their creativity at distinguished research centres as heads of research and development teams as well as in scientific and pedagogical career at universities. Graduates of this programme can also occupy high positions in large institutions and companies, where creative and independent work is required as well as efficiency at analysing complex problems and suggesting new and original solutions. The graduates receive the title of Doctor (Ph.D.) following their names. The expected number of students accepted is 40 to 60 a year.

Tuition and fees are EUR 4,000 per year.

Students' expenses for housing, food, books, medical insurance, and incidentals vary widely, depending on their marital status, quality-of-life expectations and housing arrangements. For example, the price of lunch is EUR 5-10, so the monthly costs of living may vary between EUR 300-600.

The FIT is a researcher in many scientific and industrial projects. Doctoral students can eventually engage in ongoing research to gain financial support for their studies and expenses.

How can you apply?

Each topic has a supervisor. It is mandatory for you to contact your anticipated supervisor prior to submission of your application and to become acquainted with study orientation and the essence of the doctoral thesis (i.e. dissertation).

The application process begins when you submit an online application. In case the applicant has studied abroad (except for the Slovak Republic), the document of legally required completed education must be accompanied by a certificate of foreign education recognition. The applicant is also required to substantiate the he/she has achieved the minimum required level of competence in English (TOEFL Basic English 213, written English 550 or other comparable levels).

Admission committe
The admission process includes an admission exam. The exam committee uses the assessment criteria to assess in points the following qualities and knowledge of the applicant:
- applicant's knowledge orientation with respect to the anticipated topic of his/her dissertation thesis (0-4 points),
- theoretical knowledge (0-4 points),
- special knowledge related to the study area defined by the chosen topic (0-4 points),
- competence in the English language (0-4 points),
- prior technical and scientific activities (0-4 points).

Admission exam

The exam committees will suggest inviting the applicants to sit for an oral exam. These applicants will be invited via a registered letter 14 days before the date of the exam, at the latest. The invitation will include the hour and day the applicant should come for the exam. In exceptional cases, in particular in the case of international students and under circumstances that make it impossible for the applicant to appear for the oral exam, the Dean can, at the applicant's request, allow the admission exam to be conducted via videoconference.

Pay a tuition fee

A written decision on acceptance/rejection of the application will be delivered to the applicant in person within 30 days of the verifying that he/she has met the conditions for admission to study. After you officially receive this written decision that you can enroll, then it is only through enrolment that you become a regular student of the FIT. If you cannot attend the enrolment in person, you can enroll by proxy on the basis of a power of attorney. If you are accepted and enrolled, pay a tuition fee of EUR 4,000 by October.
Details concerning the payment are given individually to each student after his/her enrolment.
