Abstrakt

This article is a brief introduction to freely available open source  simulation and data analysis software tools for those who do not follow this area of software development. We introduce the philosophy of open source and free software, then we briefly describe typical examples of such software. We discuss advantages and disadvantages of open source approach mainly in the area of education and research.
