Pokud simulace ovlivňuje vstupy a výstupy ve formě reálných signálů(spojitých či diskrétních), je nutné, aby běžela v reálném čase. Jinýmislovy, simulace musí být schopna běžet dostatečně rychle na počítači,který generuje výstupy, nejlépe ve stejném okamžiku, jako bychomtyto výstupy získali v reálném světě.
When simulation involves inputs and outputs in the form of real-worldsignals, either continuous or discrete, it is necessary for thesimulation to run in "real-time". In other words, the simulation mustbe capable of running fast enough on the digital computer that thecomputed outputs, in response to real-time inputs, occur at the exacttime these outputs would take place in the real world.
